Nice topic. Growing out some festae myself. I'm fairly certain I have a pair and they are separate for the time being.

This may be me being idiotic. But, what exactly are people 'growing out' for? I understand if you have a community of larger fish and the new additions are too small. But IMO, it just seems like an excuse to have more fish in a smaller tank (not saying anybody here does). Why not just put your fish in their permenant and adequate home and be done with it!

Ultimately, what I am asking is: can people state what they are growing out for and why. Because I fail to see thelogic and purpose behind some of it.

Finally, I don't intend to rock the boat here. I am not trying to cause arguments or fall outs. Just curious...

I think more or less the reason behind this topic is more just what fish do you have that you got small and are raising them to adult size. At that time they are mature and permanent plans are then executed, whether that is to raise them throughout their lives or sell them and start over. I happen to do both equally as there are species that after I've kept a while I am ready for a change, or I like them more and more daily and keep them forever. That's what is great about fish is if you do decide to go in another direction you can without really impacting them like a dog or cat would.

Seems understandable.

It just seems like a lot of people jump on the 'grow out' bandwagon as an excuse for an overstocked tank.
