Always loved the big Aros. Just started reserching them when I saw a bunch of 3-4"s for sale a my lfs. I currently have a 180 (6x2x2) with 8 x 3" Discus, 6 x 3-4" Geos, 9 x 3.5" Clownloaches, and a big bunch of Black Tetras. Would putting 1 or 2 of these little guys in there be a safe bet? They would be in for probibly a year of so till I start my big tank. Goin to be building a glas/ply tank next year. Going to be somewhere between 325- 500 gallons. I already have a nice piece of glass just waiting to be built into a tank. Going to be putting my current house up for sale in the spring and don't want to start a build till I know what kinda space I'm going to be dealing with in the new place. If I can get a place with a nice basement that can take an in-wall tank build, I'd be hoping to make the tank around 500g. But if I have to build it free standing, ie: up against a wall, It'll probibly be 325-375g. Don't want a bigass deep tank sticking out into the room. In-wall will probibly be about 96x36x30, free-standing will probibly be about 90x30x30. Would a Aro be okay in the 180 for maybe a yr. and a half? And would he be okay for life in the above mentioned tanks? The fish in the 180 won't be going in with the Aro, if I do indeed get one. Wow! This explanation turned out longer than I expected. Oh well, the more info the better, right? Anyway, thanks.

Ya I'm sure he would be fine, just watch him. They are very fragile when they are small.

I would suggest just waiting until you are in your new house. Trying to move large arowana is extremely difficult. Combine that with the additional troubles of moving to a new house and moving a large tank. Will makes for low odds on the arowana surviving the move.

Hmmmm...... Never thought about that, good point.
Thanks.

i'm sort of doing the same thing you were thinking of doing. i've got a 10 inch black aro in a 180 and plan to get a 300 in the next 6 months. bderick is right about moving big aro's though, hopefully mine isnt any bigger than 15 inches when i move him.
