My Bala sharks are coming up to 10 years old now, a good innings for a Bala. One died a couple of months ago and another one was looking a little bit "old". I was afraid that it would die whilst I was on holiday, which, as we all know, could be catastrophic for the rest of the tank.
My oldest lad didn't come away with us, he was house sitting, looking after the dog and cat. He was under strict instructions not to do anything with my fish tanks at all, absolutely nothing.....except for one thing.
I pointed out the dodgy Bala to him and told him to do a quick visual of the tank every morning. If he found it belly up I also told him to net it out and put it in a bag in the freezer, so I could bury it in the garden when I returned, and guess what?
About 5 days into the holiday we had a phone call from him saying the fish had passed, and that he had netted it out, and it was in the freezer awaiting my return.
Sad about the fish in question but I thought that was one helluva call from me!
