Hows this sound

I am thinking of taking out my 20 gallon wet dry filter and putting in a 50 gallon tank, but I am thinking of putting the bio balls in my overflow with my pre filter spong on top, then I can add ceramic material to my tank anyway if I keep the amount of bio balls the same but move them any problems?

The only difference would be the bio balls are in my over flow and not wet dry same pre filter and everything... why would it be a

My overflow is a dry one only an inch of. Water
