ya i used pool filter sand (diatamatious earth) and i works great looks great to. What I do with sand is i scrap my hand on the bottom and get all of the waste free floating then get a net and scoop it all in the net to me its easier

yeah use pool filter sand it is around $12 for a 50 pound bag. to clean i just run my hand through the sand to stir the wast up and use a net then i just use a gravel vac (siphon hose) and just skim the top of the sand to get more of the wast and debris.

More or less the same price. Play sand is overall garbage sand. You're in Florida and its summer time, call up any local pool supply stores and ask for pool filter sand. If that fails look for silica sand or sand blasting sand at a local supply store.

I use a 5 gal bucket, And a water hose.
Fill it half full of sand and float out impurities.
Moving the sand with my hand while keeping the water flowing.
Once I quit seeing stuff floating out. I drain most of the water out.
Dump the sand into my tank. And start over.

Also, I use Black Diamond sand.

Spike:grinno:

Well I'm using white sand so I can clean easier and is there more than one type of sand at like lows or home depot?

And I would need 2 bags for a 75 so it would be 24$ for PFS or like 12$ for play sand

I used pool filter sand also, I was recommended not to use play sand as well. It came out to $5.50/50lb bag at a Home Depot here

I put it in a big bucket and stuck a hose to the bottom and ran it for about 2 hours on low letting the lighter stuff float to the top and run off the bucket. I moved the hose around ever 15 minutes or so during this and sometimes agitated it with my hands as well

Worked really well, I put it in the tank the same day and it was only very little foggy and clear by the next day
