Not to offend anyone, but Cons and HRP looks alike to me. I've only seen HRP for sale once and they had a little more blue, but that's all I really saw. Can anyone tell me the difference in them? Pictures?

To be honest, the first time I saw them I thought they were just line bred convicts. I have been told that they are separate species, but have never seen or read of any proof...

There's a big difference in attitude and size of spawns, HRP are not nearly as aggressive as convicts and have much smaller spawns. They are curently being discribed scientifically as a new species. HRP natural range is in southern and eastern Honduras where convict occur much farther north in Northern Honduras, El Salvador and Guatamala. Ken

to add to what Ken said, also the HRP has a more elongated body in comparison to the convict. HRP's are typically, if I remember right, found more often in faster moving waters whereas convicts are typically found in more calm waters such as ponds and lakes.

I used to be involved in the same Louisville fish club as Rusty Wessel so I had the great privelege of getting to talk to him on more than one occasion about many different species. It was awesome to get to pick his brain. He is definitely of the notion that they are separate species. He said in fact that if the HRP would eventually be described as a color morph or variant of any species that it would actually be the nanoluteus as HRP's have much more in common with nanoluteus than with the normal convict.
