I have a polk psw505 that sounds great 99% of the time however the other 1% is driving me nuts. Every once in a while, once a month or every other month, it will rumble when there is only dialect and no background noise or music. Specifically the Bears pregame last night but usually the news.
When listening to movies and shows with background sounds I never hear bass that doesn't match the other sound.

My ac and coax go through a monster hts-1000 power strip with conditioner and I have the best monster subwoofer cable. My receiver is an older sony str de898.

Any thoughts as to what the issue maybe? I don't want to buy a new receiver and find out it didn't fix the problem and the issue is so rare it is almost impossible to try troubleshooting.

Hello; My guess will be the source. I have noted some odd bass when listening to live broadcasts from time to time, both TV and FM radio stations.

Source as in satellite or receiver?

Hello; I am thinking the live satellite broadcast and in the case of the FM the signal from the station. Being such a rare occurence it would seem to me unlikely that the issue is in your equipment. Just a guess on my part.
If the problem was occuring with other sources like DVD's then your equipment would seem more suspect.
Off hand the only thing I can think of to try is to reverse the phase on the subwoofer when it happens. does'nt seem likely thou.

I've tried reversing the phase with no avail. The satellite feed makes sense. As much as I dont want to buy a new receiver if I don't have to a small part of me was kind of hoping it was the issue so that I can justify an upgrade. Thanks

Hello; That the problem appears to happen during live broadcasts and not at other times was the cue I thought about. May not be the answer. Good luck.
