HUGE GAR in Memphis

I always see these huge gar looking down on the river at the casinos on the river in Memphos...Tunica I think? What type of gar are these? I will be building a indoor pond and plan on catching some gar to put in it. Any hints tips or suggestions? My cousin says just fish for anything else and you will catch gar. Also, how big are these gar, they look about 5 feet but thats looking down at night about 100 feet down. You can see the tops of them.
