The LFS i've been going to for many years had a huge all glass tank with a single arowana in it. The arowana must have been about 15 years old, at least, and it was for sale for £2500, chipped and everything.

Because of its increasing age, and huge price tag, I never thought anyone would buy it but low and behold the last time I went down the tank was still set up but the fish was gone! I said to the guy "finally died of old age did it?" He told me some collector had bought it!!!

Anyway they are getting rid of the tank, it must be 8x4x3, thick glass too, it's a right lump. They only want £100 for it but they've stated that it's up to the buyer to take full responsibility for it from the get go. They want nothing to do with it basically. There is a huge sump under it too which i'm pretty sure will be part of the deal

My guess, because of the tanks age, it would be better to reseal it. So it would make complete sense to dismantle it on site and shift each piece of glass individually and rebuild in its new home.

So, if any uk hobbyists are out there who are desperate for a huge glass tank for peanuts, and don't mind putting in a bit of work to restore it to its former glory just pm me and i'll give you details.

Aren't you tempted to get it yourself?

Even if I had the space, which I don't, and my missus give the go ahead, which she never will, I still wouldn't go near it! Lol. Glass is just too damn heavy. Any large future tanks which I ever get, if space and missus permit, will be fibreglass, as per my latest 360g. For me personally when it comes to big tanks it's just way easier to move and install tanks that aren't made of glass.

The LFS where this beast is certainly know that too. That's why they're basically giving it away, in fact give it a few weeks, when they realise there's going to be no takers, they probably will give it away just to get shut of it! And if still no one takes it it'll end up getting smashed up.

Like I said, it'll be a good project for someone who's desperate for a huge tank but is short of cash. If they have reseal skills, some big mates, a van and some suction cups and aren't scared of a bit of hard graft it could turn into a really good project for someone.

Space and wives, the curse of every fish Keeper!

What arowana was it?

Sorry, my arowana identification skills are below zero. It was beautiful though, the colours were amazing. Red, gold, bronze, orange, all metallic looking and shimmering as it moved. There were brief flashes of other irridiscent colours too as the light caught it. It must have been 30" long, 12" deep and 6" fat.

Whether such an old fish was worth £2500 is up for debate but that fish, although never really my cup of tea, made me realise why guys on here drool over arowanas. They are arguably the most majestic looking fish we have in the hobby today.

It was situated in Bolton. I rang them today to see if they still had it, I was surprised to get an answer actually, I thought they'd be shut with all that's going on. Apparently someone took it not long ago.
