First, the Mr.Firemouth disclaimer...
Disclaimer#1...I am in no way affiliated with Piranha Realm
Disclaimer#2...I am in no way a good photographer.(So bear with me) 81 pics taken and 14 developed!
Disclaimer#3...This is by far the very most photographic challenging place there is! There is low, subdued lighting(more on this in a moment), huge panes of polished acrylic glass, and extreme flash back to the camera.
With that said, here is my review of an awesome place and 2 great guys!
I arrived Friday afternoon and was impressed immediately upon arriving! Who wouldn't be standing in front of a dozen 4,000 gallon aquariums! Very cool!!!
I met George the owner, and he was very nice. I also met Scott, BigMoCats! Also a very nice and helpful guy! I talked to both of them and discovered that this fishroom on steroids is for everyone to share rather than be kept hidden in a basement somewhere. THANK YOU GEORGE FOR MAKING THIS PLACE!
Now as I begin the pics, I must tell you that subdued lighting is used here for the benefit of these fish. They are very comfortable under the natural type lighting and stage themselves from light to shadows as they see fit. Very cool to watch! Lower light levels also aid in maintenance of nuisance algal.( A good thing when you figure there is close to 600 square feet of glass to clean!) So here we go...
Here is what the tanks look like....(1 pic as they are all made the same.)
Here are some Africans...Very nice!
Here are some nice Jacks and Synspilums...
Here are some huge Pirhana...
Here are some awesome Angels and a beautiful Discus...
Anyone taste chocolate?
Gourami and Knife fish...
The Jaguar Cichlid in question is bigger than those fish!!! Guaranteed!!!!!
NOW, LADIES AND GENTLEMAN...WITHOUT FURTHER ADUE....
THE JAG...
Sorry about the pics but he likes the shadows.
Here is the best comparison shot for you guys...
The stones are over 2 feet long! Those are boulders, not rocks!!!!
For all those non-believers, this fish at first look pushes 20" Total Length!!! But after trying to size it and do comparisons, I am sure it is 18" Total Length!!! George said catching it is out of the question!(would require a tank draining!) However, all in the room including other guests would agree that 18" is very, very fair to this fish without any exaggeration!!!
Anyone visiting the "Lou" needs to stop by this place and drop in! George works alone and is helped by Scott. This is a huge undertaking for one guy, and I am impressed! The $2 fee is nothing compared to the costs of such an endeavor! So, please stop by and enjoy!!!!
