Hello learned members of the Piranha sub-forum, I have a question for you all...

We've been importing some huge wild (10-14") piranhas at work and a few months ago got in a huge "Red Diamond", which alas expired the day after arrival. It was the same size as the big Blacks, so at least 10". As we've got Sanchezi's before (as Red Diamonds), I assumed it was just a huge one...looked the same, bright red under the throat and sparkled on the sides. Shape like a Serrasalmus, obviously not a Pygo...

However, I have been informed by several piranha people that Sanchezi don't get that big...so what species would it have likely been? I wish I'd taken pics of it, but I've been trying to get another one...

ID suggestions would be appreciated!

without a pic its kind of hard to have a opinioun but I would bet its a rhom (variant)........jmo

prob a manny, but who knows w/o pic

like others said, we need pics and collection point would help as well

Collection area is Peru, which rules out Manuelli if I understand the species distribution correctly. Like I said above, the fish expired a day after arrival, and that was several months ago. I didn't realize it was an issue about it being a "Sanchezi" until recently. Hopefully I'll be able to get another one in soon and get pics.

there's no way to know without pics. This is an exercise in futility.

I wasn't looking for a 100% identification of that particular fish, but rather suggestions of what other large Serrasalmus might have that sort of colour.

I heard of Black, blue and purple diamond rhoms soooo I guess this could be a rhom of some kind but.........
