Hey everyone!
Just wanted to know if anybody out there has a hujeta gar. If you got any pics I would love to see them. I'm considering of getting my hands on a few!! Any helpful hints on caring for them and their diet would also be appreciated

Currently own 2 but I have owned 5 others over the years.

i like to use them in all my characin pred tanks because the never leave the top few inches of tank space. Unless the tank is too small.

They grow to about 10" max and although i have heard about some people feeding them dead foods. I have only ever fed live feeder fish. As I never felt right about starving a fish onto something it did not want to eat.

They need a long tank IMO a 125g is a nice size for a shoal of them around 6-8. Or you could probably get away with 3-4 in a 75g. I think the 18" depth of those tanks make a huge difference. In smaller tanks they allways eventually break there nose. By bashing into the sides.

Any tank mate that is bigger than 1/2 there size is not considered food to them and wont be harmed. As long as there fed a good supply of feeders. If you try the starve method then anything that fits in the mouth will be tried. Also any tank mate that will not eat them is fine as well.

no problem glad to help

I also have a question I hope someone could answer. Is it best to get 1, 2, or 3? I don't want to over-crowd them (72g bowfront) is why I ask. Thanks in advance.

As many as you can safely house and are prepared to feed. They love to school up.
