hujeta gar

they're topswimmers, they get about a foot long in the aquarium, they're predatory but not aggressive-- theyll get bullied around by mean fish. they're a characin, not a true gar.

They love topminnows and are much more aggressive feeders in goups than alone. They are a bit delicate and will beat themselves up against glass if kept with things like green terrors. If you can afford it a 75 long show tank with a little root wood and lots of pretty little cheap tetras would be cool. Of course you would have to keep buying tetras.

they like alot of floating plants to hide in, a ph of 7.0 water moderate to hard and a temp of 76-80. i have one and it is agressive only towards the other characin gar, i feed it krill, feeder gf, and somtimes it will even take bloodworms.

Try a small school, guppies are best feeder size or smallmollies, Clumps of weed and larger open areas are great because first they lurk, than they raid, one feeding excites the others. Besides, they just look cool.

guppies? mine eats 3 inch goldfish.

Most gars, like the one usually called "needle -nosed gar", Like colder water, closer to 68F. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THAT LID ON!!! It also might not hurt weight or strap the lid down. I say this because I actually found my gar half in, half out of my tank. He actually hit the glass lid just right, and with enough force, to get through it. Half-way, anyway.
