What would you expect to pay for a juvi humerosa? One of my lfs' has them available from a supplier occasionally (sold as Guyana stingray), and I was wondering if what he would charge me would be worth it or not. He would probably charge me $60-75 for a 4-5" disk size ray. Is that a decent price or not?

thats about there going rate....

Well, the actual rate would be closer to $100-120, because of store markup, but my guy at the store gives fish to me at just over wholesale price, because I've been such a good customer, I give him fish sometimes, and we used to be drinking buddies :naughty:.

I wish I had access to more rays around here, but nobody really carries them or can even order them it seems like. The only ones offered at any of the stores are the teacups/retics, and occasionally the guyana's. I'm thinking of snagging one the next time they're available. Think one would do well with my retic's in a 125g tank until I can build them a larger one?

Should be okay in your 125 for awhile. No lfs gets in good rays, they take up too much tank space, they usually don't have enough time to cater to there needs, and most people don't want to pay the money for them. Ordering them and having them shipped is the only way for us in our area.

Yah, I know what you mean about the space, but one of the stores has about 8 150-220g tanks set up for large fish. They keep koi in one, large cichlids in another, turtles in one, a huge african cichlid setup, and then oddballs, like gars and such. So they'd have the room, I guess they just don't like buying such expensive fish if they don't have a guaranteed seller.

My guy that got me the male retic on special order said he's much more interested in rays now, and is thinking about setting up a large aquarium to house some rays in the store (most likely for selling, not just a display). He's started asking ME all sorts of questions about them, since he readily admits to knowing nothing:nilly:.
