i have been looking back at old threads trying to find out what a ray i got a few years back is. (no pics, ray was in my care for all of a week)

i originally thought it to be a humerosa, but after looking at pics of p. humerosa i am kinda confused to what a TRUE humerosa is. seems to be kind of a fall back to any brown ray without proper id? is there any true p. humerosa species or subspecies?

ha question asnwered... looked at the great sticky by miles. and the picture of the sting ray i was talking about is the one he posted.

any other pics+ other info?

I don't think anyone really knows what is a humerosa and what is not. It is not as simple as a motoro that has many patterns but still has a similar look. The pic miles has posted in my opinion is not a humerosa but a dumerilli. This rays is sometimes called a false flower ray. The tell tale sign is the half tiger stripes on the tail and the flower pattern.

humerosa is species... the profile in the sticky pretty much somes them up... anything specific you wanna know?

alot of confusion about the ID of the humerosa, dumerelli, orbignyi and other brown rays from Colombia and Peru.. there are a few distinguishing characteristics that you can use to try to classify them, but even then it's not always for sure.. the pattern isn't a good way to tell them apart as they are very polymorphic and interbreed often in the wild
