I might get a corn snake, after my first one died quite a while ago. What kind of device should I get that measures humidity? I see there is a circular device that they use at at the pet store. Also, what should I keep the humidity, and how should I maintain it? I really would be upset if the second one died...and by the way, the corn snakes sold there are babies, not more than a foot long.

Theres no need for a humidity measure for corns. They are a dry species and should be kept as such... it's not like other snakes where you have a minimum humidity level to aim for.

Oh, okay, thanks.

Is there anything else I should be concerned about? I have a 20g long tank, with substrate, a water bowl, a hiding spot, (I will get another), and a heat lamp. Do corn snakes need anything else?

nope just food. And i guess thermometer and stat to make sure your temps are right if your going through all equipment.

dangit im so sorry your 1 died,i remember all that too well.Mine is less than a year old and is doing great.Stay in touch with us and we will do our best for you.Mine is in a cage about the same but taller.Heat lamp on one side only, screen top with no holes too big,Large shalow water bowel on opposite side of heat lamp,Moss and half log to hide in and some branches witch he does climb.I dont let it get too hot and i feed him 1 time a week, sometimes 2 pinkys in 1 feed, now he eats the small frozen fuzzy mice.I warm them in hot water in a glass unti i can leave them on my hand for a bit and not feel any cold come through.Your in cali also, dont fret the humidity. They are usualy very hardy, yes being so small bad things can go wrong maybe faster but just keep us posted.Try not to get the smallest one.Do you have a swamp cooler in your house?

Thanks, I miss him too. All the corns that I can find in the local stores are the same size. This one is noticably bigger than the other one, so I hope that gives him more of a chance. But, what is a swamp cooler?

an evaporative cooler not like regular ac.Your water line runs to it and wets the pads around it.If its humid out side then the air passing through that makes it even more humid inside. In the summer humid days it sucks. If your ac hase a temp thermostat then its pry normal.the term swamp cooler to me means you feel like your in a freakin swamp in the summer heat.It sucks real good.lol.Ppl just need to know it will bring the humidity up in herp cages and desert loving herps should be concerned most in those homes.
