So like the title says im wondering if its doable to keep one in a 10g to raisw for the first year or so? Mine is currrently in my 90g with my oscar and severum. But theres days i find the oscar gets to close for comfort(hes 13" ). Also the puffer is fairly inactive, except for the rare occasion he gets adventurous and swims to the opposite side of the tank. I have a 10g available but im worried it might be a bad idea, the puffer is about 3/3.5" now. Any thoughts?

Puffers do create a lot of waste with the type of foods they eat. Even though small, I would not put it into a 10 gallon. The Monotrete Palembangensis or Humpback Puffer can reach up to 8" and would need a 40 gallon tank for itself. You might be able to temporarily house it in something like a 20L but not for too long.

This i understand, but the listed growth rate is something like 1" a year. It would seem a 10g could do the trick for at least a year.5? Or i could be wrong

Ditto what DMD says. This species (as well as others) has a tendency to regurgitate its entire stomach contents when it feels poorly or stressed. The emesis of even a small humpback can foul a 10gal to the point of killing the puffer.

alright ill drop the idea then lol, Seems these guys make quite the mess

Thank you for the help guys :D saved me from making a silly mistake

On a side note i dont find its eating much and has gotten picky. Before he would eat shrimp peices and would eat at least two three. Now he just barely eats 1 silver side every 2 days.

These type of puffers are fairly inactive and feeding every two days or so is fine. Im surprised it can even get any food with an Oscar as a tankmate! :)

My fish are weird. My oscar only likes pellets, blood worms (or other food cubes), and cooked food. He rarely goes for fish
