I bred my current Guianacara sp. group during the holidays last year so they are turning one year old :headbang2They just had a mini growth spurt lately, but still small compared to their parents. I'm sure there are 3m/3f, and one unknown.

The dominant male just got a little hump. He paired up with the biggest female and they have been courting nonstop.

The problem is that one of the subdominant males occupied the largest cave and refuses to come out. The second largest cave is not big enough - the female can get in but not the dominant male.

Very funny to watch. I wonder what's going to happen among these three fish and two caves :D

Beautiful but goofy-looking nonetheless. Great fish and I suspect there will be much chasing and casual drama about the cave.

Goofy is exactly right :D They are not as colorful as my other fish but somehow look great among plants. Lots of drama for sure :)

Love those guys! I just wish Ken was still selling them :(

Those caves from the other Ken are like love shacks. The fish love spawning in them. Easy to guard the entrence I guess.

Subtle coloring on these types of fish are my favorite - not always easily appreciated.

Is that typical of the dominant male to lose that vertical barring - especially through the eye?

What happened to the dad in the last pic if you don't mind me asking?

I got Ken's adult group and managed to produce one brood. Kept these 7 and gave the rest to Ken, and he distributed them to a small number of people. At least they are in the hobby now...hope in a few months there will be more to go around.

I'm very curious to see what happens to the vertical barring as well. The dad and most of the other individuals in that group didn't have any barring, which I have never seen in described Guianacara species. One of the females in this group already lost all barring as well, so I guess it's a matter of time.

I'm not quite sure what happened...they just faded one by one. They might be getting old - Ken got them as adults and kept them for 3-4 years. But something else must had happened :(

WOW..awesome. So healthy looking.

Yes they are goofy little buggars and I also have a pair that I am trying to breed too. Are those Phil blue Angels in your tank?

Yep...some pinoys and lots of Philippine blues (clowns, smokeies, zebras, ghosts, Paraibas).

A couple more :)
