My senegal seems like he wants to eat everything I put in the tank. He's about 5 1/2'' now and I keep trying to feed my bristlenose pleco using algae pellets but my bichir seems to think they're a nice treat. Is it normal/ok for him to dine on these?

Usually he gets a diet of sinking shrimp pellets and beef heart

yes, it's fine. try feeding some wafers that are too large for the sen. the plec should be able to eat the wafers by scraping. watch the plec to make sure it doesn't get a taste for slime coat.

yeah I had to seperate my sen at one point because it's appetite got so voracious that nothing else in the tank was getting any food!

I get the opposite. My fishs' appetites are so large I fear more for my bottom dwellers, since they hardly ever see anything.

I was trying to drop some of the Hikari carnivore pellets and all of my fish were snatching them all up before they even got to the bottom of the tank.

Eventually my polys got to have dinner.

I love watching them eat but my tank only got a little food today :(flakes for the goraumi cause both my sen and knife still look fat from yesterday .
I must remember to feed the sen his pellets last and only if he did not steal to much of the knives food.

My knife won't touch pellets yet and except the market shrimp my sen will gobble everything that the knife will eat, mostly the blood worms and brine shrimp but both will eat silversides to. My sen will eventually eat the shrimp to if my knife doesn't finish it.
if I am feeding him pellets that day or trying to convince the knife to eat them either he gobbles the knifes blood worms or brine shrimp then goes and eats the pellets too or he eats ALL the shrimp pellets and I have to give the knife more food which of course my sen "shares", so in the process of feeding the knife the sen is getting over fed. so today we are fasting and maybe tomorrow as well as they both ate well yesterday and look it today.
he has grown at least 1/2" longer and defiantly gotten thicker since I got him
I have no worries about the sen getting enough to eat

be happy hes eating all your food and not all your fish........havnt had problems with my sen. but my lapridei will eat ANYTHING he can fit in his mouth, hes seriously eaten $100+ in fish

He is in the tank with a mean male gourami who is now ~3" An african brown knife a little over 4" and a stripped raphel cat ~2.5 that just passed qt he is just under 4" none of his tank mates will fit unless he eats the snails that hitchhiked in on the plants
