Dealing with some ammonia right now so my gars haven't eaten in a few days while I get the levels balanced...

Went to do a test this morning and OW! One of my big tropicals snuck up and clipped my thumb! I was bleeding all over the place.

Now my thumb has a line of pinpoints on it, and I feel like a wuss because it was only about five teeth holes... I was sure he really chomped downed on it!

My first experienced getting bit... it hurts and bleeds a lot!

Pics please! I'm sure he was just showing you some love.

The first time I ever got bit was from a friend who had me taking care of his wolf fish it was about 11 inches, and he got me real good I needed 3 stitches at the tip of my index finger. The whole tank turned a pink-ish tint cause of the blood.

I tried to take a picture but the battle wound looks pretty minimal after the bleeding stopped, haha. Looks like someone poked me with a line of needles.

Just confirmed my original thought of sticking entirely to the Lep. gen. Gars! No offense to you At. gen. Gar keepers, but just not my cup of tea.

I can't fathom a pet fish actually "biteing" me, but I am an avid fisherman and have taken on more than one occasion stingray barbs. I can't even begin to explain the extremely excruciating pain from one of these strikes. It makes bites from the Saltwater pirannah (Bluefish) and Flounder feel like an orgasm in comparison.

Madding, I think that I read that you also keep "stingrays". If that be the case, please be careful! It will give you a new perspective on PAIN caused by fish!

In the event that you fail to heed a warning from someone who has HANDled hundreds of rays prepare to be indoctrunated into real pain and PICS WILL BE A MUST!

fear the awesomeness of gars :D

I had a breeding pair of Scobina rays but sold them for funds towards the 500g, that left me with a Hystrix ray that the gars ripped into pieces.

So I'm out of rays, but I appreciate the warning!

i hate when i get bitten by gars. i was mildly concernd when i was moving some driftwood around in the tank when i felt a nudge on my pinky. looked to see my 22" florida doing the nudging they do just before they grab a chunk of shrimp off the bottom. it just bumpped me a dozen times and then watch me move the wood with out biting me. i have been bitten by that one and my shortnose. wish i could get my hands on some trops and cubans. just watch it for infection, when my florida got me the first time it got infected.

All I can do as another Gar keeper is... :lol3: .. I'm sure my day will come.
