I have been wanting a marine tank for ages...went into the fish shop for some fish food and low and behold there was a second hand aquamedic 180gallon marine tank with weir overflow and 20gallon sump...bargain...so I am now the proud owner of the decommissioned reeftank. They were selling the fish from the setup and they were beautiful...

So now I have a lot of reading to do, I hope to do a lower light intensive reef, or possibly a fish only tank...not sure yet, we'll see. But just really excited to have the tank!:)

yay! sounds like a great setup, and sweet deal.
i would go for a fish-only tank to start, but stock only reef-safe species. add coral later.

Why waste your money on objects that just sit there taking up space(corals) when you can buy lots of little colorful reef safe fishes and have movment or a few of the l;arger agressive fish and have movment in the tank

^you've never had a blossoming reef tank have you?^

Thats a good idea...spread the cost! I didnt quite appreciate how expensive maRINES WERE!!!! I have been reading the natural reef...estimate costs at 30-50 dollars a gallon...WHAT?!?! I was happy to have the big tank...now I want a nano!!!!

The live rock is a fortune too, Think I'll build it up over the months rather than get it all at once...easier on the missus that way too lol! Going to get the seawater from the sea, its really clean up, but cold! We get some species that live in warmer water too like cuckoo wrasse, if I can catch one!

I have to get some lights, but our leccy is so expensive now I'm glad it didnt have any...its going to have to be LEDS and a couple of T5's...

No i have not and i dont care to..(wife would love one though) and the majority of the fish i like/want are not reef safe so i chhose the fish over the corals..its just a personal choice

Wow...thats beautiful...are they all soft corals? What lighting have you got? That cocworm is amazing!
