My bichir developed a slight tinge of red in his side about a week ago. Now it developed into what looks like a red sore or bruise. Can anyone tell me what this is and how best to treat it?

There are no tank makes except for an arowana half it's size who has only been with him for a few days during a tank transfer and they leave each other alone. Also the water is kept very clean. Whenever I change the water I always add salt with prime. That's why it is so odd this happened to him and I can't figure it out.

There is just a small amount of gravel on the bottom to cover the undergravel filter and a smallish rock he likes to perch on. It could be possible that the heater could have burned him since I can't think of anything else. How do go about treating a heater burn? =)

Might be heater burn if u can't see anything else that might have done that to him. Does kinda look like it's forming a blister. Use salt like you're doing and remember to dissolve it first before chucking it in the tank otherwise you're gonna burn him. Add Melafix too. That should help him heal and keep up doing the water changes. Bichirs ar tough as nails so he should get through this with no problems. Get a heater cover, the LFS should have. And let us know about his progress... :)
