The Bichir would be great in a Biotope setup and aren't difficult to care for.

Bichirs can survive basically anything and don’t really bother any other fish. Highly recommended.

Flint town!

That's a little misleading. While bichirs are one of my favorite ancient fish they are not bulletproof, and they will eat other fish that will fit into their mouths. Over all like tlindsey tlindsey said pretty easy to care for.

Ok, assuming we are looking a 5’ x 2’ maximum tank and the tank is going to be a life long home and you don’t plan on building a big pond.
1. African nile (perch) - too large for > 2 yr
2. African knifefish - ok
3. Bichirs - some ok - some too large > 2 yr
4. Lungfish - most too large > 2 yr or solitary fish
6. Acipencer (sturgeon) - too large >2 yr and too warm
7. Oxydoras niger - too large > 2 yr
8. Hoplias sp. - ok
9. Grouper - too large > 2 yr
10. Eels - ok
11. Arrawana, paddlefish. Sawfish and gars are all too large or endangered.
This is just a look at the list of fish based on the tank size and the fish size assuming a forever home.
