with hybrids...does the fish become a whole new size from hybridization? for example a RTC X MARBLE SAILFIN....does it grow to normal RTC size or because it was mixed with a sailfin become a whole new size?
depends a lot on how healthy the hybrid is. out of a bunch of baby hybrids some will die due to a bad genetic inheritance, some will stay smaller, some will be in between, and some will have hybrid vigor to where they grow much larger and healthier than expected. so it really depends on the specimin i guess. there are reports of rtc x tsn getting 8' but some will stay baby sized.
I don't think anybody really KNOWS yet. Some of the folks here have hybrids that seem to be growing as fast or faster than their "full blooded" counter parts though. They best way to find out would be to buy one of every type of hybrid cat, grow them up and let us know!!!
Seriously though, check out Necrocanis' Catfish Bonanza thread or the Monster Catfish Sticky and you'll see some good sized ones.......and they're all still very young.
its impossible to say really it depends on which genetics it gets from which parent this is why hybrids can look so different from each other some get some traits from one parent and others from the other parent so its really hard to say much about hybrids they could look like one of the parents and get the size of the other or get the behavior of one so its hard to say much about hybrids but you can useually get an idea of what the fish will turn out like
wen it comes to RTC/TSN hybrids they virtually always grow huge cause both TSNs and RTCS are huge fish. other than that it really depends which parent is male and female. ie. if a male lion mixes with a female tiger's genes u get a HUGE liger with hybrid vigour (and no growth inhibitor gene) on the other hand if its a male tiger and female lion u get a smaller tigon.
