Hi a new here. Just thought I would post some pictures. I was sold this male cichlid as a Trimac X flowerhorn. Well I put him with a female Trimac and the nest day she laid eggs and I now have free swimming fry. Do you think the male is a cross or a pure Trimac. He is in breeding colouration at the minute. Thanks

Welcome aboard

Members will chime in with their analysis of the Cichlid being a hybrid or pure Trimac.

Beautiful pair. The male shows some extra pearling on his side that you don't really see in trimac, so I think he was correctly labeled as the cross when you got him.

I love hybrids myself, but the problem with them is that the 75% cross might look pretty close to the pure species and thus get absorbed into the genepool. (On a side note, I believe this actually happens in the wild, though at a much slower rate, giving us some of the diversity within species and locales in the wild.)
