Hey all,

I rescued two 1 inch cichlids from a bad fish shop, at first i thought they were scared, but then saw a green painted on look to them, the shape of them also remind me of a cichlid ive seen before but cant remember which one exactly. Any help would be appreciated in identifying what these cool guys are. I think the smaller is a female (fingers crossed)

To me, they look like "jellybean" convicts, or short-body. They are def hybrids of some kind imo, face of the fish in second pic looks sloped, almost like a more predatory species. I do see the green you're talking about as well over the gill plate. Might have some texas cichlid in there. It will be impossible for us to tell you what the mix is... But, they're some kind of short-body convict hybrids. Interesting looking fish.

They are very aggressive... challenging fish 4 times the size of them.

normal convicts IME are one of the most aggressive fish hands down when paired up. Hybridization tends to bring out even more aggression. So yeah you've probably got some little monsters on your hands.

Hi again, ive posted a 60 frames per second video of them so you can clearly see their green markings and green glitters. You can also see how fearless they are amongst my other big cichlids. Ive been searching throughout the day for similar traits in other cichlids. Its almost as if this is 80% convict with a little cuban/chocolate/texas/trimac/parrot. I do think they are awesome. Just hope they wont cause havoc to my perfectly balanced tank when they get bigger.

P.s. the first part of the vid is of what i hope to be the female, theyve definately exhibited behaviour that could lead to pairing (when close to eachother), i.e. subtle aggression with no damage to eachother. I think its a female due to the orange on its lower belly area.

this is the link as i cant post vids on mfk...
