Canada eh
So I am brand spanking new to rays, so please have mercy on me lol.

I am wondering if hybrids would typically be worth more money than a pure bred ray? I understand not all species are equal.

The rays in question are a pure bred marble pup, which I am most likely going to pick up for $300 from a guy who bred them. Very healthy and watched it eat all the types of pellets I am already feeding my current stock. So I think this could be a decent price but correct me if I am wrong. The only other rays I have seen in my city for less than this are motoros that are suspect to say the least and newborn so really fragile ( I assume).

The second ray is from the same marble mother but a different father which is a hybrid of unknown (to me) species. This one, the breeder is asking $500 for as he says it has crazy markings and has a green tinge to the skin between all the spots. Thus he is calling it a “zombie motoro”. I assume the hybrid is more due to its rarity (there will be no more like it ever lol). Is it typical for a hybrid to be worth more because of this or is this most likely the sellers discretion?

I like them both and may end up with both but just checking in if this is typical pricing or is it high or low? In my mind I would rather pay a bit more than what the stores are charging just for the peace of mind that I am getting healthy reliable stock. I trust this guys care. I walked around his place for almost 2 hrs just watching his fish and herps. He keeps
Everything in Immaculate condition so I’m just poking around to see what the experts here have to say...

In the end of the day you pay for what you see and what the parents look like, there are some crazy good normal rays, crazy good hybrids, bad quality normal rays and bad quality hybrids, if you like it enough, and can pay for it, do it.

For the pricing I don't really know how it goes in canada. my motoros were around 80~95 USD, that being the pricing for WC in Brazil, (I mean, one of them has a fair colour which makes me unsure she's WC, and of the three "normals" one of them was 40 USD because I got her in a raffle).

But really, prices vary a lot, I've seen rays going from 30 bucks to 400 bucks here, the difference being their colour and pattern.

Lol 80-95 usd. That’s about $300 cad. :hitting:

Thanks G Gustavo S

Yeah... lol, still, keep in mind they were WC, so QT, deworming(not so easy when there's no pure form of praziquantel in you country, I'm doing it with Levamisole Hydrochloride), getting them to eat, pellet training are all on me, and I got no guarantee they'll do well...

There's a pair in a 415g pool, the male ate prawn within 30 minutes in his QT when I got him, the female took 4 days and I had to scent her prawn with brine shrimp.

There's two females in a 100g QT, the small one I've seen eat bloodworms, the other not so sure, I've yet to try her with brine shrimp and live earthworms, if all fails I think I'll be trying my luck at force feeding her.

On the bright side I've seen the male courting the female in the pool today, I might have to call Chris Hansen on him though since she's like 8~9"... lol.

Buy what you like and dont worry about "what's worth more?" Don't let someone else's opinion dictate what you should buy. Pure vs hybrid debate will never end. Some high end hybrids cost considerably more than any pure line ever has and ever will period...

Do you have a thread on your rays, would love to check it out.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions. I’m just wondering if these are fair prices and it seems as if it’s not too terrible.

I hear speculation that marble / motoros will possibly be going up in price in future due to being added on the cities list in SA. Like I said speculation but would be neat to tough it out and grow them up to adulthood.

Seems to go on an individual look or ray by ray basis these days as Tim said... Alot of hybrids are just common place/cheap now where as 5 yrs ago they were new/rare...to the u.s. anyway. I kinda hope we see a trend back to pure bloods. $500 seems kinda steep to me for a marble mix. all depends on the look tho even if u can get just about whatever mutt combo out there for $200-400 range.
