Hybrid pikes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm trying for a tapajos red I x tapajos II cobra cross. Difficult but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Thankfully pikes are usually smarter than other cichlids it seems, and thank all the gawds they are. Hard enough to ID them properly as is.

Sounds like it would be a beautiful thing!! I feel like as long as its a sax and a sax or a lug and a lug it would probably work. I'd really really love to see people hybridizing zebras with something cheaper so I can afford one haha

Im pretty sure sax's have hybridized before i may be wrong but I think I read it somewhere, maybe on vinny's site. Lugubris haven't been hybridized; it's hard enough to get them to even breed with the same species lol

Those are different species, but I have never seen or heard of any crosses. Pike keepers are usually smarter than that.

LMAO True story. I just got into pikes, so my IDing ability is pretty rough to begin with, but holy crap is it challenging. I thought IDing geos was difficult, but pikes make them look easy. LOL

we have caught numerous pikes from the Rio Cuaro in Uruguay that appear to be a cross between celidochilus and minuano, with a lot of variation between individuals, and we are not talking just a couple fish, but many over several years of collecting, what is even stranger, neither of those species have been caught at the same location (but both are found in the main river about 10 miles away where the Cuaro enters the Cuareim), only missioneria and scotti, Felipe sent samples to Kullander and did DNA test and he thinks they are a natural hybrid of missioneria and celido, we are going back there in a few weeks and I hope to get enough this trip to bring some back here to try and breed
