Have a RD/Midas with a batch of fertilized eggs, that are definately gonna be hybrid. I have two male Cons, and an O whose sex is undetermined.

Is it even possible for an O to fertilize RD/Midas eggs?

anyone ever hear of that happening?

also, anyone have pics of RD/Con offspring? Wondering if they would end up more RDish, or more like a con, or just somewhere inbetween.

what fish is hanging out with her? if none, it is not to uncommon for a female cichlid to "drop" eggs by herself.

i do not believe it possible for a oscar to fert those eggs. if the convict is the father, then i would love to see updates on this thread as they grow. :)

i'm sure this cross has been done before.

my guess on what the spawn would look like is this. they will get most from the convict, however color and body shape will probably come from the mom. a few might "peel" to orange, but most will not.

when breeding hybrid stuff ppl say is that the mom genes "enhances" the dads genes for colors, body shape, fins, head humps, ect, ect...

She won't let anyone near the eggs, but she has been flirting with the O lately (mock attacking and chasing, but nothing violent), since eggs were laid, though, nobody comes near that end of the tank. she even tries to attack me through the glass (very uncharicteristic of her, too. she's usually as docile as my O).

I showed the pics to someone in the breeding section, and they said they look fertilized. if so, I hope it is the con (probably is, being that they are more closely related than the oscar is to the RD), as i imagine a O/RD would be quite ugly.

I will definately keep you all posted on the progress, I'm hoping to have at least several survivors, keeping the best and giving the rest to the LFS (and anyone in the area who might want one).

about six or seven more eggs turned white overnight. hope that's not a reason to worry. I've only bred convicts before (not trying) and just ended up with a bunch of fry one day (not paying very close attention, obviously). I really don't know much about care of eggs and the process.

okay, now some of the eggs deffinately have some fungus growing on them. what should I do?
