That's a very good question. I've had a Hydra 40 (internal version) sitting on the shelf for about 6 months -- because I didn't really need it and also was a bit wary it would throw off my otherwise good water parameters of an established tank.

I did a lot of checking around but not that many reviews, I think because it's not widely distributed outside of Asia. There are a few YouTube reviews (with one guy saying it was good, but much more effective with FW rather than SW). There's a young lady who has a good review, but it's in Dutch. I posted comments in English though and she kindly answered in same: basically her opinion was that it was quite effective.

What I was hoping it would do is help with nitrates, but I don't think it really does that (in fact it's possible it might increase nitrates, though manufacturer says this is temporary). It's more of a help (as OF itself claims) with ammonia and nitrites, which really aren't an issue for most of us unless perhaps starting up a new tank and no mature bio-media to start with.

Please keep us updated of how it goes!
