One of my ten gallon tanks has not had fish in it for awhile. well last night when i put some new fish in it, i noticed a rather large colony of hydras growing and budding all over the tank. are hydras bad? i know they eat other infusoria, but can they harm my fish?

wasnt sure if this thread would go here or in fish ilnesses so if a mod could move it to the proper forum, it would be much appreciated.

I really wouldn't worry about it. They will subside after a while.

Hydras are cool, but have stinging tentacles. They are harmless in small numbers though.

Howdy,

They are dangerous to smaller fish (fry). On the other hand, gouramis and bettas love to eat them!

Hydras can eat slow, weak fish slightly larger than themselves, ie, fry

ok thanks guys. after a while i took the fish out and poured vinegar into the tank. and i killed every living thing in there. so now im starting that tank over again
