How many are you thinking of keeping? with tank mates or no?

I have a hydrocynus vittatus, started at 4 inches, I've had for about a year now, he is about 14", swimming in a 330 with the same size stripe bass. He thinks he is a stripe bass right now, cause he swims with them. So I would say, in a 220, it is safe to keep it in there for about a year, with same size tank mates, before the upgrade. After that, the rest have to go, and keep him in there solo or with other bottom swimming fish, i.e., rays, bichirs, etc... until he gets to 24 inches...prolly be about 2 years...

no Aros.

The H. tanzaniae is the smallest at about 10 1/2" but I can find no record of it ever being imported.
