Hey I just got hit by a great opportunity to buy tat for only 45 buckseach from my wholeseller!!! DAYYYUMMMM!!! i'm already planning to get armatus so should should I still get them??
What is their life expectancy in a 75 gallon. I was told tat can only live for 3 years tops?? Is that true. If it's not and can live longer, what's the factors for a heathly long living??
Should I get 2 tats and 2 armatus in my 75 gallon ( temporary for a year) or is this a big no no??? Will they definitely fight??

funny thing was that he had a pic of an armatus and he had hydo scombs in his stock listso i asked if it was the armatus for 45 but he said no, the guy told me that he put hydrolycus scombs on his stock lists instead of hydro tats because no body was willing to buy tats!! LOL
so basicly he is intentially mislabelling the fish and ripping himself off at the same time.

For that kind of money I would get a group of three or four tats and one armatus.Im guessing they all are small and if so you should about a year in that tank before they need some real space.....never heard of this thing with tats living only for three years but like I said on other threads, don't give them smelt to eat.

what do you think is the life expectancy of the tat??

Hey you Tat keepers.... Which one of you have kept your tat for the longest?? What's your secret in the longitivity??

Life expectancy for armatus??

Armatus live for about 5 years or so and tats is really unknown, they can live for 6 months or years its all how you take care of them. all payaras are like this really. good clean water with lots of filltration and feeding them healthy and they will live longer. 75gs for life then I wouldnt get an armatus unless you can get a bigger tank. (they can get over a foot in less than a year) un like tats are slow growers and grow about 1/4 an inch amonth. tats are normaly mellow but if its aggresion that your looking for then armatus are the most aggressive even tho you can make fish more aggressive as how you take care of them. what I mean is if you want a tat but you want him more aggresive then put him in a tank all by him self with nothing really for im to hide behind, make the lights alittle dim and feed him 2 to 3xs aweek with the lights on. trust me I had my tat acting like a armatus. he would come up to the top of the tank when I open the lid, like he was waiting for me to drop food in. I would throgh in frozen foods in and he would eat them faster then he could find out they were frozen and not live. but going back to tank size I would get 1 tat for a 75g. he would be in there for a long time ifnot for life. getting more than one they would ether get less aggresive and work as a pack ore be like armatus were 2 or more they will start compeating for food and elimanate eachother off. so I would stick with one. tats can get up to 18 inch so keep that in mind. fact is payaras all are different, its just how you take care of them. hope ths helps and its true every word. Ive had one bad ass tat in the past and now I have 2 armatus please read all of this, I know payaras.

and if you think im full of it, I have my c. gibbus' s eating frozen foods like shrimp and silverside and they dont spas out when I have my hands in the tank. if that dosent impress you then idk what will. armatus are also not that flexable so idthink they would do well in a tank that size since they grow so fast. also onlast thing. I would really look at what your getting. tats normaly run for $100 or around,$%$ sounds like ther going to give you a schomb or something simaler like a gibbus. look at Iding your payaras, ill help in the long run

you sure tats only live for 6 months?? LOL

Like I already said, the scombs were mislabeled as tats.

Dude read it over" its really unknown, they can live to 6months OR Years. Its just how you take care of them". meaning if you dont know how to take care of them they will die faster than if you know what to do and know your stuff then they can live for years. no one really knows because there all different and people take care of them differently.

do your homework man. They said my gibbuses had a life span of 6 to 12 months but they have been kicken for almost 2 years

did my research. I asked my local mfk vendor and he said that tats can only live to 3 years old or something.

why are you asking then? even though you dont care what anyone haves to say? just because the armatus will live longer dosent mean hill live for that long in your tank. smaller tanks will shorten its life anyways. the armatus wont be able to swim and will beat the sh*t out of its self trying to move wich will shorten the life aswell. for that size tank your better off getting a smaller type of payara like tats. but I dont see why Im waisting my time when you dont care. Ask the seller to ship some kleenex tissues along with the fish so you can blow your nose the day he gose belly up and youll know why he did.
