Hello everyone I am thinking about setting up a plant or two on top of my 55 gallon tank, I don't know what plants I want yet but I want to know what cheap lighting fixture can I get, and how much has to be in water and how much has to be above it, and all that jazz it's gonna be a diy project but I just want to know the basics of the must haves for it to be a success , I have big fish in there and good amount of nitrates and it's a very established tank.

I would go with Pothos, they dont need much light, but with the roots in the water would really help suck up nitrates etc...

When you combine hydroponics and fish tanks you're actually getting in aquaponics and there is ton of information online about that. Either way you be happy with the nitrate removal....
