Hi Guys... I just recently bought a Thorichthys Ellioti along with a new Firemouth (female)... What a beautiful colourful fish this Elli is!! BUT and this is a BIG BUT... He is VERY VERY Aggressive!! hes attacked and bullied the Male Firemouth in there into submission and even started attacking the Oscars that are about 10 times his size!!! He also seems to have paired of with the female Firemouth.

Is this normal behavour?

Not usually, Ellioti are normally pretty calm, I guess you just got a very territorial one. You could try putting him in a breeder net for a while and reintroduce him into the tank after a week or so. Also how large is the tank?

The Tanks 44 gallons I think but quite tall... maybe just 30" wide by 15" front to back

Oscars, as in more than 1? In a 44g tank? Being kept with other semi-aggressive fish? Probably part of your problem right there.

Sorry i can't help,

But that Festae in your avatar is stunning ! Any other pictures ?

Not mine... but used to have one similiar ages ago

Yeah I've got a 48" by 15" tank I could move them all into for the time being but I'm wanting to get rid of my Oscars.

Cheers

Phil

I had a male t. ellioti that was reallly aggressive. He owned most of my 150g which had a larger a. robersoni, h. deppi, JD, and a smaller salvini. I've had meeki, aureus, mixteco and ellioti is the most aggressive of all thorichthys cichlids IMO.
