any ideas as to what it is??

its about 7" fat and healthy, and well over a year old

all i know is that it definitely not a common and definitely not a sailfin

I got the fish from a local aquarist as an L006 a couple months ago. There isn't much info of these fish on the net. It took me this long to find an id.

How rare are they?

Just so you know with pleco's rare doesn't always equal value. That being said I've never seen one of these. I would imagine care is just like any other hypostomus.

Im aware of that. wasn't referring to the value of the fish just lack of information. He's pretty agressive for a pleco, he beat up my L200

I have one like this in one of my juvie tanks. I purchased it as a Trinidad pleco?

From DJ/MC Decker

its definitely not a trinidad pleco, they have a different shape and pattern. Im pretty sure Trinidad pleco is just a fancy name for common pleco

Trinidad pleco is H. Punctstus I believe. It looks more like like H. Sp. Tingo maria to me. Although I tend to stay away from hypostomus sp, so I am no expert.
