Hypothetical/potential stocking list

I have a spare 55 gallon tank sitting in my room. I'll keep it short and simple, If you could set up a new 55 right now, what would you put in it. IDC if you say 100 neons or a mbuna tank, i am looking for any and all opinions from basic to complex as all hell.

I would go for:
•4 keyhole cichlids
• 15 emperor tetras
• 1 Bristlenose pleco
• 8 cories of preferred type.
Just my personal preferences on what my favourite fish are. So I would personally go for this because it’s similiar to what I have/want in my tank.

thanks for the reccomendation, i will take this into consideration. it would be nice to have a setup where everything isnt constantly fighting

I had a group of labidichromis chisumulae & lab hongi back in Australia in the early 2000’s. They’re a really cool & colorful mbuna. I’d do a nice hard scape in the back 1/2 of the tank w a few well placed individual rock pieces in the front 1/2 and go with a group of either of these 2 labs

Recently I’ve been wanting a planted tank so I’d do driftwood and rock scape, heavily planted, with rummynose tetras, a few angelfish, some corydoras, and a bn pleco. Maybe some like ornate rainbow fish as well js to have more schooling variety.

I searched them both up and you are right, a species only tank with either of them would look fantastic. would be nice to finally have a break from the (sometimes) thunderdome that comes from mixing continents, or even lakes. thanks for the Idea!

that sounds like the wet dream of community tanks, and I think you might be on to something with the rainbows, as a bunch of colorful dots might make it look a little empty in a 55, but the rainbows would probably bring it all together

I've wanted a colony of demasoni for awhile, not sure if the tank is the right size, honestly haven't researched them much, but that's the direction I'd look into.

C Cal Amari demasoni are a beautiful & very cool looking mbuna. They are definitely more aggressive than labs but a 55gal would be ok if you thinned out a grow out group to 2M & 10F.

Personally, I'd start a breeding project. Get a nice group of plecos, some caves and plants, maybe a school of danios or tetras so that I have something to look at while the plecs get busy. See if I can get some fry going.

I'd probably try L106, I have a nice big male in my community 55 that I keep as a singleton. But there are a lot of plecos and the vast majority will live comfortably in a 55 for life.
