I'm confused about the sex of this one. It is about 6" and I received it 7 days ago. I purchased it on line as a male, but from what I've been reading, I would say it's a female because of the line through the body and the rounded dorsal fin. It has no body color, but I'm thinking that's because it is still stressed. I would actually be happy either way.

I think (it looks to me like) you have stark white substrate, which tends to wash out colors in many cichlids.

But I agree with the others, the forehead profile looks male, as does the few spots visible in the unpaired fins,
Below a male

now a female, very different pattern in the dorsal, and more streamlined profile

The background is black and I have been fighting the brown algea so I removed the rocks until it is completely gone.

You can see a little bit more color in his fins in this photo.
