i want to breed a ||" mayan cichlid with something interesting
theres no mayan cichlids in my area infact this is the only one ive ever seen.
im looking for something that would make an interesting cross and fertile young as a little project.
i know i would have to divide the tank at first cause im uncertain of the size fish il be getting i might have to get a 6" or so fish and grow it on for abit. the tanks big enough to be halfed though.

so Ձ questions
|.to divide it should i use eggcrate? and what exactly is eggcrates and where can i get it?
Ձ. what species can/will cross that are interesting

thanks for your time

You may or may not have to use egg crate, depends on how they take to each other. Egg crate is made of strips of plastic in a grid pattern. It allows full flow through it, but will prevent solid objects (like a fish) from going through. You should be able to get it at a hardware store. They make them for 4' flourescent ceiling lights to sit on. You will need to cut it to size, then attach a frame, which is usually made of small pvc pipe. You can connect them with zip ties. Also, drill a few holes in your pvc to keep it from wanting to float. As for fish to cross, how about a carpintis? I think that would be interesting.

hey guys update, i have the mayan succesfully at last sexed,
and it is female, i will need to seperate because its the most aggresive fish ive ever owned. more than jags or devils, its still in breeding mode,
so i need to know what large male cichlids i can breed with her that can put up with her? also most books say they get 8" but my female is 11"
so i was thinking
trimac
RD
jag

im not too sure what CAN hybridise with her, so il need more ideas

and on the subject of the dividing, im gonne get some plastic square egg crate stuff from B+Q and cut it to size, and make a hole in it when i introduce the 2 fish so the smaller one can escape. do i use syllicone cement stuff to fix it in place?

i dont mind having to grow the male on til breeding though. the tanks big enough to be divided
