So I quarantined my 2 new hystrix rays for a couple weeks once I got them. They were in a bare bottom tank and it is amazing to see the color difference between the rays in the bare bottom tank and the rays on black sand. It was also interesting to watch the change once the two new ones were added to the tank with the sand. Hystrix rays are quickly becoming one of my favorite rays.

Fish will have a darker tone if their suroundings are dark and same in reverse.

Hystrix are all too often just looked upon as just another brown ray,to me they are a very special species, they are one of the more sensible species because of their smaller size to keep in domestic setups, and look at that stocky body with the big frog like eyes set way on top of the head......dont you just love em!....i sure do!

Very nice rays by the way, terrific patterns on both of them,

how about you ship me that lighter one in color....very nice lookin hystrix

I like that light one too..

I love them all!!!! Kyle where are you on getting these rays already?!?! Everytime I see a Hystrix thread I want one even more!

INteresting...

Nice Rays, but that light colored Hystrix is sweet. Hope it stays that way for you.

i too have mine on black sand, and 1 of mine is dark like yours and the other is light, crazy the difference in them... i wonder if the dark ones eventually will grow out of the dark color and become light??

they look awesome, they are my favorite rays too!
