A few weeks ago, some of you may remember me posting about my female hystrix having some sort of fit and was curling and not eating (I thought for sure she wouldn't make it). I isolated her, treated her, and am now taking a chance on putting her back in my amazon (plus a couple other species I like) community tank. She is now eating up to seven whole Canadian night crawlers a day! She still acts a little weird to me. I'm still not sure if she just had some sort of stroke or something. I treated her with salt, prazi pro, and kept her in a bare bottom 55 gallon tank with tons of aeration. After a couple weeks of treatment, I initially put her in my severum tank with black sand to see how she'd do. She did great. So now I'm putting her in a larger amazon set up with quite a few tank mates...where she was when she had that initial fit. Let's see how she does.
This might be one of the greatest stingray comebacks I've witnessed. She was all bones, having periodic "coughing fits", curling significantly, and showing zero interest in food. I used my judgement, and the good stingray folks on MFK whom I trust advice and she has made a great comeback.
So far so good. As I write this, she is swimming up the side of the tank. Still keep your fingers crossed for me though. She's still acting a little weird to me.
