I'm keen on finding which type of acanthicus my newly acquired pleco is, so here are more shots. When I first placed it in the aquarium, it just clinged to the sides of the tank, and after a day it stayed under a piece of driftwood. After a water change, it moved to the front of the tank, but still under a piece of wood.

As requested by wyldfya, I tried to take close shots of the pectoral. COL, I know you have plenty of knowledge on plecos as well, if you could help me out, that would be great.

I hope these pics help. If they don't, tell me what I need to do, so I can help you guys ID it.

My hair are standing up from their looks.:WHOA: Good shots though. Hope you get a positive ID about it.:)

I'd lean toward adonis, as the last pic of him showed some spots near his dorsal. How big is he?

Just to let you guys know, that was the first time I had seen my spinosus come out from under his piece of driftwood. And during that time, I was trying to get shots of the acanthicus. I guess he felt left out. That's him in the very last photo. Look at how fat he is!

Thanks Lupin I'm hoping also.

Wyldfya, it's approx. 8 to 9 inches. I'll try to get more dorsal shots also.
I've been looking for info on the net to differentiate the two plecos, but could not really find too much. In regards to that last photo, which spots are you looking at? Perhaps the 4 whit spots that are close to the dorsal?

I wouldnt say Adonis. I dont know how quick adonis lose there spots, and the second pleco im not sure about.leapord cactus? sultan?

the OP already said what it was, P. spinosus (L160)

At 8-9" it would have already lost most of his spots. The dark coloration though is odd. The presence of those spots however, makes him look to be an adonis.

My Adonis is approx 8" not counting trailers and has lost no spots to date...just added my 2 cents
