Hello all, I just got a hystrix pup that will go into a 225 housing 6 rio nanay angelfish and 8 wild red discus on the way.

I wanted to know if a red wolf, ethyrinus ethyrinus will work as a tankmate for the pup. I read all the threads here if it working in most cases with a hoplias. I wanted to know if anyone has experience with the red wolf which is much smaller.

I have had the red wolf with pike cichlids, severums, angelfish, and oscars in the past and he is currently with geos and he ignores them completely.

I wanted to know if:

1. Will the hystrix try to eat the red wolf
2. Will the red wolf pose a threat to my hystrix. It's a pup about 6 or 7 inches.

Please advise if you have had experience. Thanks!

It should work out fine. As long as the size difference isn't great.

It varies on the wolf. Sometimes the wolf won't tolerate certain tankmates but if tolerating ur pike it should tolerate a ray.

The Ray should leave it alone when small. An adult hysteric will eat a small red wolf. An adult will likely be left alone. keep well fed and plenty of hiding spots

At 6-7 inches the length and girth should deter ur Ray from eating it.

Keep a divider or spare tank in case.

Thank you! Just put the ray in the tank after an hour of bucket drip acclimation. I'll add the red wolf on Sunday. Discus will come in next week and with qt in my 75 for 3 or 4 weeks before I add them.

This should give ray plenty of time to acclimate. I'm super excited about this ray. It is my first! I purchased him from absolutely fish in NJ. They claimed to have had it for a month. I hope he makes it and eats soon.
