So don't know if this is true or not but I've been wanting to get one of these guys for awhile and the harvest season is open but aparently they are not finding anything. The ray guy at my fish store told me this and then said its looking like they might be going endanger. Just curios if you'll have heard bout this.

^What Keep said, late Oct, Nov, Dec. Doubt they are endangered as they wouldnt let them be harvested. Unless of course Brazil has closed their borders again.

Send me a few :D

here in Brazil, there is a lot of Hystrix at lfs right now.

Always collected in October and aquascape usually brings in a minimum of 50. All the one's you find now are priced high have been in stores for months. Last year was supposedly a great year for collecting so I think your guy is full of it.

ive allways read they are one of the more common rays like motoro but there is little demand for them. they do seem to be available late in the year. most people know of ray quotas on one ray or another so its easy to say thats the reason when they arnt available at the time because the water is too high or because there just isnt enough demand for the exporters to collect them or even because the exporters are using their time and resources to catch and export the more expensive fish first while they are able.

if more people wanted them the exporters would collect them but as it is there are fish woth alot more that they would rather spend their time catching. what would you aim to catch and transport ? the one that you can sell for 10 dollars or the one you can sell for 50 ? ( numbers and currency made up btw ) .

once the quotas for the expensive fish become filled the the less expensive fish will become available :)
