I'm new to Rays period but I just can't resist anymore I wanted to start off with the not so expensive species , However i have a few questions such as, Can the ray or rays live out in a 265 gal 7'x2'x30''? , also the tank has gravel already in it, is this ok?. Can these rays co-exist with the same size fish like Dorado and megladoras irwini catfish? ;)

Yes they can co exist with the fish you listed although those two will get pretty big for your tank. The true histrix will be the way to go for your size tank but they are hard to find. Motoros are iffy as some stay relatively smaller but you get the occasional one that gets huge. Some of those hybrids coming in from thailand will probably stay pretty small. Either way a 2' wide tank can keep up to a 14 inch ray comfortably. I have a 2 foot wide pond with an 11 and 14" ray and they are doing fine. I will have to go wider when they get over 16" though. The gravel should be fine. I kept my rays on gravel for the first year then I went bare bottom.

get a hystrix or a retic. motoro's get a meter in diameter.

marble motoro stay a bit smaller than the normal type

as for hystrix chances are it will not be a true hystrix and just a type of motoro be sure to get pics before you buy anything called hystrix and post them on here lots of people have got rays labeled as hystrix but they are not
