hystrix

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what is thier max size round?

This can vary a great deal.
My largest female measured 15" across the disc and my largest male was 10" disc.
12-14" is the norm for most females and anywhere from 9-12" for a male.
It is possible for a pair to breed before reaching the above sizes providing they are old enough and the male has large well rolled claspers.

Hope this helps.

I was just reading up on these today. I'm picking up a 60"Lx18"Wx25"T tank for my smaller arowana to grow in, and I was thinking about potential tank mates. I've never owned a stingray, and the hystrix seemed like a decent beginner ray.

If they max out around 12-15", then one should be ok for a year or so in my new tank, right?

These are not the fastest growing rays so no problem, you could well get away with 2 years without any trouble before an up grade was needed if starting off with a small pup\pups.

Sorry for the pseudo-hijack Bass, but that's awesome news. I'm going to do a bit more research on these guys. Guess I should start checking vendors for pricing as well. Any idea what these guys usually run?
