Hey guys. I had a question about stocking. Thinking of moving some fish around in the future as I just picked up some baby Astronotus Crassipinnis.

First the tank:
280 Gallon: 80x24x24
100 gallon K1 Sump
Fx6 closed loop
60% water changes weekly

I have three full grown Kelberi in my 600 that I’m thinking of moving into the 280. I wanted to add four Astronotus Crassipinnis in with them and do a tocantins/araguaia biotope. Will probably add my L24’s too.

Would the tank handle the load? I will have some wood but not as much as I usually do.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks guys.

I think you will be fine, those are my favorite Oscars btw they look gorgeous in a black water tank. Total tank volume 300 plus gallons with sump I’m sure you will have it planted for denitrifying K1 should handle that bioload no problem. Will the fx6 be the only pump in the system? Will the sump have its own pump in conjunction with fx6?

not pertinent to the question, its "on the fence" not in the fence.

with the f6 and 100g sump bio filtration should be fine.

not if you add the 100g sump, but agreed, thats with the sump, not the tank alone.

80x34x24. Comes to 280 gallons. Eight inches longer and 10 inches wider than a 180. Still a small tank though.

The tank has a pump in the sump and the fx6. I am going to upgrade the fx6 to a reeflo dart pump and an Ultima 1000 sometime later this year.

I’m glad to hear you guys think it could work. As my grow outs get bigger I’ll make the move and try it. It’ll be several months before the Crassipinnis and Myersi are big enough. I plan to put my grown Myersi, Winemilleri into the 600 and make it a columbian biotope. Hopefully it works.

I made the mistake in listing the dimensions. My bad.
