So I’ve been keeping African haps and peacocks for about 2 years and Lately I’ve been really drawn to Oscar fish. I love what I’ve been told about their personality and just fancy keeping something that is a bit of a big brute. As much as I love my Africans I am feeling it’s time to change.

My current tank is 151cm x 51cm x 66cm which is 450 litres or about 120 US gallons or about 100 imperial gallons.

Given my tank size what’s everyone’s advice on how many Oscars I could keep to adult, I really wanted a tiger, red and Albino trio. I also like peacock bass.

Any advice you can give me would be great. My filtration is 2 FX6s…….overkill I know it’sjust I always worried one might fail….(previous experience and another story).
Thanks

The issue with most who want to keep Cichlid like the Oscar is proper PH for a soft water species. kept in hard high PH water and high Nitrate levels will result in HITH aka Hole in the head disease.

My nitrates are always around 0 or just over as I do 50-60 % water changes weekly along with chemical filtration with purigen.

I personally like the Oscar a old time favorite but unfortunately can't keep one.

And from what I understand the Iscars would be fine with PH around 7.5

If you can keep up with that routine then you'll probably won't have issues. Remember though as the Oscar gets larger a larger percentage wc will be needed.
