I just bought a new 90 gal tank to set up. I'd like to make this one a "sort of" community tank, with maybe 1 or 2 main fish. I really like frontosas but I'm not sure about tank mates and I'm not a huge cichlid guy anyway. I'd like to plant the take in the future as well, so maybe fish that do well in planted tanks. Discus are probably out of my price range though lol. Help!

If all else fails, my RBP's will be moving in.

I'm not big on exodons lol. especially not "75" big

well in a planted tank not many cichlids are going to do well, as they like to up root plants, BUT you could do severums, awesome colors and they get pretty big i also havent had a problem with them and my plants

I would do polleni cichlid and a bichir and a green terror cichlid and maybe a catfish that stays around 6inch I used to have a tank with the same tankmates and it worked out real nice

What are your goals for the tank? Do you want lots of levels of activity? Do you want color? Is the behavior of a few large fish your goal? If you want to go planted, I would start with the plants and go from there, get that working well before being set on fish. If you are going low tech (no co2 or ferts), you can do things either way, fish first or plants first, but if going high tech, you will have an easier time getting algae and co2/lighting under control before adding fish.

There are TONS of options for a tank that size. Some ideas on what colors, behaviors, etc you want to see would help narrow it down immensely

I'd like the tank to be something eye catching to brighten up my room. I thought about 3 good size frontosa and some other smaller colorful Africans. I'd like it to be an active tank. I've always kept piranha as well and would like to try to grow out a rhom but its a large tank to dedicate to a single fish grow out.
