I am trying to decide if this is the right tank for me.!!!

I have found an all glass 72" x 24" x 29" tank for sale for $850...With lids and 2 overflows with pre-drilled holes. I have never had a sump before. I am old school and would like to use 2 - fx5's or something and no sump.

Is the sump the way to go though? What is the best and cheapest way to build a sump? Will a 10 gallon or a 29 gallon work. With a sump do you also have a filter or is it all built in to your sump?

Can I just plug off the holes in the bottom of the overflow and just use canister filters! :nilly:Please give me some advise.

you can make one like me or you can buy one at the store or use one . you dont need another filter but you do need a water pump to pump it back up to your fish tank from the sump tho good luck on that
im useing a rio hf 32 for my 240

On a tank this big would I be making a mistake installing a couple of can filters instead of sump.

It woulnt be a mistake, but if it is drill w/ overflows,it would be a shame to not use a sump,& plug the holes.

Do you already have the canisters?

Is the tank going to be planted?

Are you buying the tank new? I asume not.

A reef ready tank cost more,no sence in paying for something your not going to use.

If you don't want to use a sump then your much better off just getting a new tank that not drilled, I was looking at a 180 and the price difference was at leas $200. Sumps are nice and cheap but for what your going to pay for the drilling and overflows + the sump you might be better off just getting a non drilled tank and getting 2 fx5's, but I don't know how much they run. Honestly I'd look into which is cheaper because at that point one is not much better than the other.

Go with a sump if thats what is set up for.Or get a tank w/o the overflows. With pump i threw my sump together for 130$.
